Retro Figures/Toys
This page refers to the first toys released from 1984-1992 for the cartoon, The Transformers. It is referred to as "Generation 1," or "G1."
These are rare now as they have been out of stores for over 30 years, and children in the 80's treated them as what they were: toys. They are now highly coveted and extremely expensive to obtain intact, much less in-box.
While they may not always sell for these prices, boxed 1984 Optimus Prime toys can be valued in the thousands.
Although you may not be met with much luck initially, consistently searching for good finds can be a successful tactic for G1 toys. Here are some good places to try:
- eBay is the go-to for used toys. Many will be significantly upsold, but occasionally people will be genuinely selling their old toys for reasonable prices, or unknowingly listing them for much lower prices than their worth. Click anywhere on this text to be taken there!
- Conventions like BotCon and TFCon have entire dealer rooms dedicated to selling figures. This may require some haggling, but you can find nearly anything for a price. Click either convention name to be taken to the appropriate website for more information.
- Finally, try going to antique stores, thrift stores, anywhere where people might have donated old toys or sold their old memorabilia.
